Many people decide to seek therapeutic services for a variety of reasons. Whatever your personal reasons might be, I am happy that you have started the process in looking for a therapist.

Life can be fraught with difficulties and suffering. When those times become overwhelming speaking with a professional therapist can be helpful. It is my aim to create a safe place where people can discuss their concerns with someone who is objective and nonjudgmental.
My work is client centered. I focus on client strengths and their ability to arrive at their own solutions. I like to partner with clients to see what they would like to change in their lives and ways to do that with evidence based interventions. My aim is to restore hope to clients and to promote new skills that improve their ability to cope with life’s challenges.
I lived in Minnesota until I graduated, with a Bachelor degree in Psychology, from the University of Minnesota in 1977. I moved to California that same year. I entered the mental health field as a crisis counselor in 1983. I received a Master degree in Social Work in 1998 from California State University, San Bernardino and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2005.
Over the years I have worked in mental health clinics and social service agencies to resolve the social, emotional and behavior challenges that men, women, children, adolescents and families face.

I have worked as a therapist for 12 years including clinical counseling with children, couples, individuals and families and liaison with area child and family service agencies.
Therapeutic Certifications and Training include, but are not limited to: Parent Child Interaction Therapy (2013), Nurturing Parenting Facilitator Training, Ages & Stages Questionnaire, Ages and Stages: Social Emotional Assessment Training. Clinical specialization areas include individual, child and couples therapy, improving child behavior, reducing PTSD, Anxiety and Mood disorders.
I appreciate the emotional journey and challenges that people experience, and I hope to assist in the process. At times, relationships surprise and confuse us, and working through these emotions is important for individual and family health and well-being. I am passionate about helping others find joy along their best life path.

Life is full of challenges, sometimes, occasionally, sometimes daily. I believe all of us have within us the skills and the capacity to meet the challenges head on and process through them to gain understanding and insight about ourselves and others. I also believe in my gifts and abilities to assist and walk alongside as others process offering comfort, guidance and support.
I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 25 years. After my graduation from Loma Linda University, I have had numerous employment opportunities to assist in my own growth as a person and therapist. Some of these include the County of San Bernardino, Childhelp and various non- profit outpatient mental health clinics. I have been a professor at University of Phoenix for ten years teaching in the Master’s program for future therapists and the Bachelor’s program for social services. In recent years, I have been the Clinic Supervisor for a non-profit mental health facility providing mental health services for children and their families. I also mentor beginning therapists to assist them in providing the highest quality of services to clients as they gain hours for licensure. I have certificates in many of the various modalities of therapy as well as EMDR, play therapy and Trauma Focused therapies.
I am a client centered therapist, calling myself a client advocate. I work with my clients by identifying their strengths and helping them see solutions to their issues. I also help them engage in problem solving activities as well as help them recognize they are not alone in their struggles.
One main thing I say when asked about my values is………this is not my job, this is my calling.

Joyce D. Nicholson, M.S, AMFT, APCC
I believe that life is a roller coaster, with ups and downs, curves and loops, throughout the ride. I believe that everyone has their own path to walk, and I find it a blessing to be able to walk along side individuals to reach their highest potential.
I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor. I use a person centered approach tailored to the individual to help individuals find peace within themselves and joy in their emotions. I have a background working with people experiencing psychosis, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders.
I believe that there is no such thing as “normal” as we all have our own path to walk. I am passionate about helping others meet the highest version of themselves and grow into that version. I believe that a person is a whole creature, mind, body, and spirit, and that all must be nurtured.
